Carmen Bruno, Recycling Coordinator
Hernando County's Solid Waste and Recycling Department

Carmen has over 17 years working in Solid Waste Management, including customer service, scale house operations, recycling, site utilization and training. He is the Recycling Coordinator for Hernando County. Currently he is working to increase Hernando County's curbside recycling program and implementing a composting program. Before finding his way into the solid waste industry Carmen worked as an Industrial Engineer in the contract manufacturing sector. Carmen is certified through Solid Waste Association of North America as a Recycling Systems and Composting Manager and holds numerous certifications in solid waste from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Landfills tend to attract several species of birds, including gulls, eagles, and even ducks when ponded water is available.

Carmen will host Hernando Audubon members, led by Program Chair Nicky Armstrong, on a tour of the county's north landfill on February 5.

Participants will be able to learn about the recycling and compost programs and will have an opportunity to view birds. Details are on the Field Trips page.
