Dixie Shores - Crystal River

Hernando Audubon

Established 1959

Trip leader:
Eileen Riccio

Starts: 8 a.m.

Meet in the parking lot at the intersection of Dixie Shores Drive and Fort Island Trail Road about 2.5 miles west of where it intersects with U.S. 19. (Note: there are no restroom facilities at Dixie Shores).

Dixie Shores is a rather undiscovered gem of a trail that leads around and past three man-made lakes through beautiful oak hammock. Because of the many small oaks, we will hope to see a variety of fall migrants. The walk is about 1.5 miles out and back. Time permitting we may do a stop afterwards at Fort Island Trail Park for wading birds and additional passerines.
