Hernando Audubon

Established 1959

Hernando Audubon is holding a Bird Box Buildathon in conjunction with a wildlife viewing event at Chinsegut Conservation Center.

Participants in the Bird Box Buildathon will be able to assemble and take home pre-ordered bird boxes in exchange for a donation. Society members will be on hand with tools and to help with the assembly.

Bird box kits are available in three sizes: suitable for Carolina Chickadee/Tufted Titmouse, Eastern Bluebird, or American Kestrel/Screech-Owl.

The kits must be ordered in advance.

For information or to order a kit, please contact:

Tom St. Clair, Conservation/Scholarship Chair at 352-904-303-0919 or

The Chinsegut event is family friendly, with activities for ages 3 and up, and with wildlife viewing opportunities.
In addition to the Bird Box Buildathon, other scheduled activities include:

- Members of Florida Bat Conservancy, a conservation and rescue group for bats, will make a presentation in the Conservation Center building. The organization will also have bat boxes available.

- Representatives of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences will be assembling solitary bee nesting housing.

Any money from donations that exceeds Hernando Audubon's expenses for materials to build the bird box kits will be used to fund the society's educational and outreach programs.
Chinsegut Conservation Center is located at
23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville, FL 34601.

I have my eye on you. This Screech-Owl has found the perfect home: a bird box, like the ones that will be available at the Bird Box Buildathon.
